The
shop is part of a "strip mall" in the Cherrydale section
of North Arlington, minutes from the Key Bridge of Georgetown,
DC, on the corner with Lee Highway, Rt. 29.
Blooming flowers bask
in the hot afternoon sun.
Inside
the double front doors, the blooming plants (begonia, left, and
violets, center) are surrounded by artistic ceramic pots,
candle displays, paper products (napkins and plates), and wonderful
accom-
paniments for potted
beauties soaking up the front windows' sun. Down the three
steps unfold the rest of the extensive giftware and flowers.
To the right of the steps beckons
our fragrance bar, featuring "lines" by Thymes and a variety
of other intriguing body lotions, hand cremes, soaps and sprays
-- from Goat Milk scrubbers to scented bureau drawer liners.
To
the left, a "Children's Corner" features gifts mostly
for newborns (oriented toward grandparents!).
Featured are "taggies",
soft blankets with many tags sewn in the seams. See the playful
wooden cut-outs beneath the tabletop(left)
of the infant desk for
sale.
Instead of entering the main store
area by the three steps, many use the ramp for the handicapped along
the wall, with its display space home for artifical weaths.
At
the foot of the ramp (back center of photo) is a central display
area that features special items periodically. The "seats"
around the table are actually small cocktail tables with hand-painted
etchings on top. The colorful "lights" in the
tree above the table are clever votive holders for outdoor cheer.
Oppposite
the central display table (above) is the check-out desk.
Hanging on the display
tree above the basket of candies, next to the desk, are ladies'
evening bags with bright floral decorations (inset, left).
Beyond the check-out desk toward
the rear of the store, a "floral fantasy" area features
a broad display of fresh flowers, matching those on display
in the big cooler on the right. A second cooler (not shown,
behind) is dedicated to potted bulb gardens or other seasonal specialities.
Inside the big cooler are at least 20 varieties of colored roses
(inset) at all times, along with other specialty flowers from Holland.
And alongside the back, behind
the fresh flower stand, are three "walls" of many messages
and sentiments from the Nation's smaller makers of greeting cards--
cheery off-beat examples of creativity.
No
matter what part of the store has your favorite "goodie",
our trained staff are ready to help with your selections, wrapping
gifts, processing orders, or helping with compassion when flowers
speak louder than words. Thanks for visiting our store -- come
see it "in the flesh"!!!
